In the last newsletter I wrote how we’d been asked to update the Bradt Guide to the Peloponnese, an exciting project that will see us spending as much time there as we can manage in September/October. The guide won’t be out till 2024 so if you’re planning to go to the Peloponnese this year, grab yourself a copy of the current guide, the only one there is that’s devoted to the Peloponnese (plus sections on Athens, Delphi, and Kythira).
Suddenly, this week, I’ve seen several pieces published online singing the praises of the Peloponnese, so it looks like being a busy summer there. I thought I’d share some of these with you, so you can immerse yourselves in this very special region of the southern Greek mainland.
Why The Fabulous Villages Of Southern Greece Should Be On Your Peloponnese Itinerary
This excellent piece by author Cindy Barks (click here) focuses on seven villages that she visited in the Mani, while driving in the Peloponnese. If you’re into food then she singles out the Kourmas Seafood Restaurant in Limeni for the best meal she had on her entire trip. Right, that’s a place that’s definitely going into my notebook - though it’s already recommended by the Bradt guide, so I’ve no need to add it. Sounds like I ought to check it out, though!
The Delicious Food and Wines of the Peloponnese
This headline naturally caught my eye, and you can read it here. It has plenty of information about the food you’ll find in the Peloponnese, including its range of cheeses and unusual eggplant (aubergine), and a lot about the region’s wines too. There’s a couple of recipes as well.
Peloponnese, Greece: An epic sun-baked road trip across Southern Greece
This is a lovely long read from Conde Nast Traveler, which starts off on Spetses before the author moves across to the Peloponnese and starts travelling around the Deep Mani. She visits Vathia, Patrick Leigh Fermor’s house in Karadamyli, Gerolimenas, and some tempting-sounding hotels, and it will definitely give you some ideas for trip-planning. I’ve bookmarked it for my own planning.
The Sites to See and Things to Do in the Peloponnese
This is a more conventional piece about the Peloponnese, concentrating on the area’s many famous sites. These include Epidavros, Mycenae, Olympia, and Monemvasia, but the piece is more of a list of everything there is to see rather than telling you very much about any of them. I’ve really only included it because it was also published this past week, yet another story about the Peloponnese. If you’ve never been, maybe it’s time to start thinking…
Till next time
Yammas!

Nice article - The Peloponnese is one of the best areas I've visited in Greece !
Always nice when one's favorite village is not mentioned. Over-tourism is definitely negatively impacting many locations around the world.
