One small section of our website is called The Best of Greece. It’s only small because we prefer to write about things in detail, rather than give lists, but they seem to be popular with visitors. In fact one of them, The Ten Biggest Cities in Greece, was the third most-visited page in October after the home page and the blog page.
The Ten Biggest Cities in Greece
So, what are the ten biggest cities in Greece? You can probably name the first two, Athens and Thessaloniki, and perhaps also the third-biggest: Patras in the Peloponnese.
But after that? Well, interestingly the fourth-biggest city is Piraeus, which merges with Athens as one big metropolis, but it is a city in its own right. If you want to know 5-10, you can visit the page: Ten Biggest Cities in Greece.
Ten Biggest Greek Islands
People are obviously interested in size, as the next most popular of these ‘best of’ pages is the one listing the ten biggest Greek islands. Again, most fans of Greece could probably name Crete as the biggest, followed by Evia and Lesbos, but after that? Well, two of the Ionian Islands are in there, and four of the ten biggest are all in the North-East Aegean. You can see the full list here.
Best of the Rest
I’m not going to list each and every entry in the section, but I will mention the Best Greek Beaches, with a bit of an apology. Yes, I know - how on earth can you choose the best beaches in a country that has hundreds of wonderful beaches?
But I’ll come clean: I was paid to do it. A magazine editor asked me to pick the six best beaches in Greece, so of course I had to. The magazine no longer exists so I thought I may as well put the story onto our own website. I did change the title, though, from The Six Best Greek Beaches to Six of the Best Greek Beaches.
It was certainly an interesting exercise. Three of the six are in the Ionian Islands, and fantastic beaches they are. No apologies for choosing these. My other three favourites are on Crete, on Santorini, and in the Peloponnese. You can see my choices here.
That’s it for this week. Thanks for reading and for subscribing. Do share this with any friends you’ve got who love Greece like we do.
