Exactly three years ago, in June 2020, I reviewed the new edition of the excellent Bradt Guide to the Peloponnese.
It’s excellent because it’s almost 300 pages long, and if there’s a more thorough guide to the Peloponnese then I’ve yet to see it.
It’s also recommended as the original author, Andrew Bostock, lived in the Peloponnese, and one of his daughters was born there. However, the family obviously has wanderlust as they now live in the attractive garden city of Suzhou in China (which amazingly I visited years ago).
Bradt Guide to the Peloponnese Update
Being in China obviously makes it difficult for Andrew to update his guide to the Peloponnese, and Bradt has decided that it is time for the guide to be updated… so have asked Greece Travel Secrets to do the update for them! It isn’t signed and sealed yet, but is well on the way, enough for me to share the news with you.
The rough plan is first to spend a month or two finding out what’s new in the Peloponnese in the last few years. For example, a recent news story mentioned that two new museums will be opening in Argos this year. One is actually a major update of the Archaeological Museum, and the other a brand new Epigraphic Museum.
Alongside the preliminary research we will of course be planning a visit to the Peloponnese, probably in about September or October, and for as long as we can manage. The guide also covers Kythira, Athens, and Delphi, so we’ll have to see what else we can fit in.
Maybe we can fly into Kalamata from London, use that as a base from where we can drive round the Peloponnese, and also get the ferry to Kythira from Kalamata. That sounds like the start of a plan, don’t you think?
Yes, definitely the start of a plan! It’s always exciting thinking of and planning a visit to Greece, especially one where we can hopefully spend several weeks there.
Till next time.
