Eat Crete
Crete tops National Geographic's Best of the World Food
National Geographic has named Crete as the Best Destination in the World for food lovers in 2026. Greece’s largest island outranks Kelowna in British Columbia in second place and Oʻahu, Kauaʻi and Maui in Hawai‘i, coming in third.
The 15-strong list was compiled by National Geographic’s editors and writers from around the world, and further down the list were such places as London, Singapore. Cape Town, and Southern Tasmania.
It was Crete that took top honours, though, thanks to the combination of its deep-rooted food culture and its modern cuisine. Crete was also recently chosen as European Gastronomy Region for 2026 by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts, and Tourism.
Cretan Food and Drink
