This week I wrote a piece for Greece Travel Secrets about one of our favourite towns on Crete, Sitia. It’s a lovely place in Eastern Crete that’s less well-known to most holidaymakers. That’s partly because there’s no international airport in Eastern Crete. The nearest is Iraklion. It’s only a two-hour drive away but that seems to deter most tourists. It doesn’t deter Greek visitors, however, and that’s who you’ll mostly find in Sitia, meaning plenty of places to stay and good places to eat. You can read why we love Sitia here:
Eastern Crete
You can get an overview of Eastern Crete on this page. If you’re based elsewhere on Crete buy want to explore the east of the island a little then here’s how to cover Eastern Crete in Five Days. You can see archaeological sites including Gournia and Malia, popular resorts such as Agios Nikolaos and Elounda, and hill villages like Kritsa, where you can see the remarkable church of Panagia Kera.
